These Locations Will See Heaviest Snowfall From Latest Winter Storm

Some parts of the East Coast could see over half a foot of snowfall from a new winter storm.

The system will arrive in the mid-Atlantic starting late Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 19 and continuing into Thursday, Feb. 20, the National Weather Service says.

There will be heavy accumulation in parts of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and North Carolina. (Those locations are shown in dark blue in the first image above from AccuWeather.)

There will be periods of snow, and snow showers, over a much broader area. (Click on the second image above.)

"Some snow will extend north and west of this area, while icy conditions occur just to the south," according to AccuWeather. "While the storm will fail to make a northward turn along the Atlantic Coast, it will still deliver the biggest snowfall of the season for some areas before heading out to sea."

Click on the third image above for the latest accumulation projections released Wednesday morning:

  • Areas in the darkest shade of blue: More than a foot of accumulation is anticipated.
  • Next lightest shade: 6 inches to 1 foot of snow is projected.
  • Lightest shade: Expect 1 to 3 inches of snow.

After the storm pushes off the coast, temperatures will gradually be more seasonable in the coming days with dry weather expected through the weekend.
